London, England – Bullseye Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in COLLECT, Europe’s flagship fair for contemporary objects. As the only US gallery showing at the fair, Bullseye will be presenting new work by five internationally exhibited artists working in glass, including Jane Bruce (UK/USA), Cobi Cockburn (Australia), Jessica Loughlin (Australia), Jeffrey Sarmiento (USA/UK), and April Surgent (USA). These artists have taught, worked, and studied in Europe, Australia and the United States, representing the leading edge of contemporary studio glass.

Bruce, who headed the glass programs at North Lands Creative Glass in Lybster, Scotland, and the Canberra School of Art in Australia, casts abstracted, minimal suggestions of vessels and houses. Her work is featured in the collection of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.

Drawing inspiration from her native Australian landscape, Cockburn blends rigorous technique with delicate, subdued forms that evoke grasses and warm landscapes. Her work has received Australia’s premier glass award, the Ranamok Glass Prize, as well as the Talente Prize (Munich). Cockburn’s artwork is a part of the Palm Springs Art Museum in California and the Corning Museum of Glass.

Loughlin also takes her cue from landscape, creating an illusory sense of depth in her quiet horizons of glass powders and cast layers. Loughlin received the Tom Malone Prize from the Art Gallery of Western Australia in 2004 and 2007 and was the 2001 winner of the Outstanding New Artist in Glass award from UrbanGlass. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft in Denmark, the National Gallery of Australia, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

In marked contrast with the other artists, Surgent’s work is a figurative reflection of her surroundings. She uses cameo engraving to capture scenes of urban bustle and pastoral fields. Surgent’s work was a Jurors’ Choice selection in the Corning Museum’s New Glass Review 2006 and is included in the collections of the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia and the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington. Recently, the artist participated in an exploratory exchange at the Bullseye Glass Company studios with master engraver Jiri Harcuba.

Sarmiento brings a boldly graphic sensibility to his architectural silhouettes and layered silkscreen imagery. He was a finalist for the 2008 Bombay Sapphire Prize and is currently completing a Research Councils UK Academic Fellowship at the University of Sunderland, England. His work is included in the collections of the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft in Denmark and the Museum of American Glass in Millville, New Jersey.

In its sixth year, COLLECT has emerged as one of the premier international art fairs in Europe. Organized by the British Crafts Council, this year the fair ventures out to a new location at the Saatchi Gallery in London. This move will bring a new audience for the contemporary work presented by the prestigious international galleries that make up the fair.
