Currency: Contemporary Studio Glass Jewelry and Beads

Reflecting both an ancient medium of exchange and the modern global exchange of artistic information, Currency celebrates the new and ancient alike in a rare gathering of international jewelry and beads made exclusively in Portland glass. The Bullseye Connection Gallery, July 6 – August 7, 2004.

Portland, OR –The Bullseye Connection Gallery is proud to host an exhibition of contemporary studio glass jewelry and beads made from Portland’s Bullseye glass by artists from around the world.

Beads and other small glass forms made to approximate semi-precious stones were among man’s oldest mediums of exchange. These rare and valued objects served to adorn, to reflect and to transfer wealth within and between societies. With them flowed also ideas, keeping the individuals involved in their transfer current and their societies vital.

In the world of contemporary studio glass, beads and other forms of jewelry represent not only adornment, but also the passage of technical and aesthetic information between makers as distantly situated as a Ghanaian master beadmaker and a Mexican jewelry designer.

Bullseye welcomes this talented group of artists whose cooperation in the pursuit of knowledge and beauty is a powerful coin in any realm.

Currency runs concurrently with the 2004 International Society of Glass Beadmakers conference and includes works from the following artists:
