Portland, OR – Bullseye Gallery presents Cipher, a solo exhibition by Kate Baker on view October 5 through November 26, 2011.

Australian artist Kate Baker sees human experience as a confluence of internal and external forces. Culture, technology, language and personal histories mediate and shape experience. Reality is not objective; it is created by a subliminal exchange between the spaces we inhabit and us. Baker translates this exchange into densely composed, vibrant kilnformed sculptures and panels. Inhabited by ghostly silhouettes and layers of coded information, Cipher, Baker’s first solo exhibition at Bullseye Gallery, seeks to unravel the complex interchange of informational and emotional environments that overtly and subconsciously affect us all.

Baker graduated with First Class Honors from the Glass Workshop at the Australian National University School of Art (Canberra) in 1999, and later cofounded Locus Studio, a glass kilnforming and coldworking studio in Sydney. She has been a Ranamok Glass Prize finalist three times and was included in the 2007 International Exhibition of Glass Kanazawa in Japan. Baker was the Gold Award winner for e-merge 2010, Bullseye’s biennial juried competition.
