The 2006 SOFA Bullseye artists share a commonality: all have participated in programs at North Lands Creative Glass either as teachers, assistants, students, or artists-in-residence. The artists represented reflect the last three years of intense collaboration between Bullseye and North Lands. Fueled by a common mission - that of creating a serious international meeting place for artists where issues of making and thinking can be explored within an environment that is both stimulating and meditative - Bullseye Glass Company has collaborated with North Lands Creative Glass since 2003 to provide master classes and forums where artists might push the technical and conceptual potential of the manufacturer’s materials.

Bullseye Glass Company’s presence at North Lands is as support to the many artists, teachers and students with whom it works regularly through its Portland-based research programs and gallery. Bullseye/North Lands artists are predominantly kiln-glass oriented and the company has worked with North Lands’ directors to outfit a studio especially well-suited for this working method. Bullseye’s SOFA booth will showcase both sculptural and 2-D artwork created with a wide range of kilnformed glass techniques.

Four of the Bullseye artists, Steve Klein, Silvia Levenson, Catharine Newell, and Ted Sawyer will join North Lands’ founding director Dan Klein and National Museums of Scotland’s curator Rose Watban in a panel discussion on the influence of the Scottish program. "Where the Rainbow Ends" is part of the 2006 SOFA lecture series. To learn more, visit: www.sofaexpo.com.

Works destined for SOFA/Chicago will be previewed at the Bullseye Gallery in Portland, Oregon from September 19 to October 21, 2006.
