Giles Bettison

September 1 - 30, 1999
Each of Giles Bettison's vessels has two interiors. While the space inside yields form, it is the translucent shell surrounding it that holds its true contents–the memory and reflection of the place on Earth where he first envisioned it. Tectonic layering, seismic shattering, and volcanic fusing produce an object that seduces the eye through its entire surface. Hard as stone, soft as flowing sand, their allusive textures take the refined materials of their substance back to their origins in that earth. – G. Wichert
