Jeff Wallin: Compressed

Jeff Wallin explores the figurative marks of time on paper and in glass during “Compressed” on view at The Bullseye Connection Gallery from November 3 – December 10, 2005.

Portland, OR –The Bullseye Connection Gallery is proud to present Jeff Wallin’s “Compressed,” a collection of figurative works on paper and in glass on view November 3 – December 10, 2005.

“The human figure is an iconic subject of interest and beauty, a record of unique experiences that have left indelible marks seen in the flesh and felt through expression,” says Wallin. “The present is the culmination of moments by which past decisions and events have recorded themselves on the human form.” Wallin’s process begins with drawings of the figure on paper but transitions to glass as his concepts expand. “The properties of glass allow a tangible layering of the human form,” Wallin explains. “The image created from initial observation is transformed through a series of manipulations. These transformations effectively parallel the physical changes of a body during the course of a person’s life. The duration of days are distilled and compressed into a single living moment.”

Wallin, a Portland resident, is a native of Chewelah, Washington and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. He recently won First Place (non-functional category) at "E-merge,” a juried exhibition for new glass talent sponsored by the Bullseye Glass Company. “Compressed” is Wallin’s first solo exhibition in Portland.
