"Come on indoors; the viewing is fine" by Joseph Gallivan (Portland Tribune)

Fused glass has such an effortless beauty that many artists use it to create purely abstract images.

Jeff Wallin, however, creates portraits that have a Dali-esque feel, where the glass panels melt and produce distorted lines. It takes various kiln firings at different temperatures to achieve this effect.

In this show, Wallin’s first solo at the Bullseye Connection Gallery, he uses fine-grade frit, a Bullseye crushed glass product, to draw faces. He says he doesn’t like to get too technical with his artwork and prefers to allow the unexpected to happen. The pieces cost between $1,500 and $2,500.
